There are no prior learning or other requirements for this qualification. Students who would benefit most from studying this qualification are likely to have a Level 2 qualification such as a GCSE in Double Award Science or Biology.

Students can progress from this qualification to:

  • A range of different relevant academic or vocational higher education qualifications
  • Employment in a relevant sector
  • Further training

In the October of year 11, 12 and 13 parents and guardians will receive an email asking which exams the learner intends to take, and where they would like to take them. Parents and guardians must inform King’s InterHigh if they need assistance finding an exam centre by mid-October.

King’s InterHigh can support you in finding a local exam centre. It is then down to the individual to register with the centre of choice and pay the exam fees to the centre directly. As each exam centre sets their own fees we cannot provide accurate pricing, however as an example, you can see our own fees by clicking here

Physical, medical or learning support needs may be eligible for access arrangements during exams. These can include:

  • Extra time of 25%*
  • Extra time up to 50%*
  • A reader*
  • A scribe*
  • Supervised rest breaks
  • Separate room
  • Use of a laptop
  • Enlarged print exam papers

*These arrangements must be approved by the exam board. The learner will need to undertake learning assessments with an educational psychologist or specialist assessor in order to complete the application form. These assessments can take up to 18 months to process.

The deadline for application to the exam board is the February of the year that the learner sits exams.

Students based in the UK have the option to pay annually, per term or monthly. International students based outside the UK cannot pay monthly.

A Level Biology FAQs

After studying biology at A Level, you may consider studying a degree in:

  • Biomedical science
  • Genetics
  • Marine biology
  • Microbiology
  • Zoology

This can then lead to careers in agriculture, biomedicine, conservation and food science, among other niche disciplines.

Biology is concerned with studying living organisms and how these interact with one another, as well as their environments. It’s a multidisciplinary topic spanning several fields. A Level biology covers the study of cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, genetics, ecology and evolution.

Our online A Level Biology course is exactly the same course as you’d study in a physical school or college. It carries exactly the same value and you take the same exams. The key difference with online learning is that you can study wherever and whenever suits you. All you need is an internet connection.

There are three written exams in total. Usually, these are taken during May or June.

If you are studying with us, your parents or guardians will receive a letter from us during the October before, asking if you need help finding an exam centre. If you need help, you must let us know by mid-October. Once you’ve found a centre, it’s up to you to register with them and pay any fees.

There is no coursework in Edexcel’s AS and A Level biology. The subject is assessed through three exams, and you’ll take part in practicals to prove your skills and techniques.

Completing A Level biology can open up a big range of university courses and careers. It’s often an essential requirement for biology, biomedical science, dentistry, and veterinary medicine degrees.

Whilst A Level biology is naturally more challenging than GCSE, with good time management and self-determination, you can gain a good understanding of the topics covered and feel confident answering the questions you’ll face in exams.

There are no prior learning requirements you need to study this subject at King’s InterHigh. However, we believe you’d benefit the most from this course if you’ve previously received a Level 2 qualification in GCSE (or IGCSE) Biology or Double Science, at grade 7 or higher.
