About this course

AS and A level business online course overview

The study of AS and A level business online allows learners to take the first step towards a career in private and public organisations or progress with confidence to a degree in business and management related subjects.

The content areas are:

Business and its environment: AS business: enterprise, business structure: size of business: business objectives and stakeholders in a business. A level further develops business structure, size of business and external influences on business activity.

People in organisations: AS level covers: management and leadership: motivation and human resource management. These are all developed at A level which also covers organisational structure and business communication.

Marketing: AS level covers: what is marketing?: market research and the marketing mix. These are all developed at A level which also covers: marketing planning and globalisation and international marketing.

Operations and project management: AS covers: the nature of operations: operations planning: Inventory management and operations planning. These are all developed at A level which also covers: capacity utilisation: lean production and quality management and project management.

Finance and accounting: AS covers the need for business finance: sources of finance: costs: accounting fundamentals: forecasting cash flows and managing working capital. These are all developed at A level which also covers budgets and the contents of published accounts.

Strategic management is a topic only studied at A level and it includes: What is strategic management? Strategic analysis: strategic choice: strategic implementation.

There is a common content for AS level and A level business online, but A level students study additional material to a greater depth.

Candidates beginning this course are not expected to have studied business previously.

Business A level online provides a suitable foundation for the study of Business or related courses in higher education. Equally, it is suitable for candidates intending to pursue careers or further study in business or management, or as part of a course of general education.

In the October of year 11, 12 and 13 parents and guardians will receive an email asking which exams the learner intends to take, and where they would like to take them. Parents and guardians must inform King’s InterHigh if they need assistance finding an exam centre by mid-October.

King’s InterHigh can support you in finding a local exam centre. It is then down to the individual to register with the centre of choice and pay the exam fees to the centre directly. Access arrangements

Physical, medical or learning support needs may be eligible for access arrangements during exams. These can include:

  • Extra time of 25%*
  • Extra time up to 50%*
  • A reader*
  • A scribe*
  • Supervised rest breaks
  • Separate room
  • Use of a laptop
  • Enlarged print exam papers

*These arrangements must be approved by the exam board. The learner will need to undertake learning assessments with an educational psychologist or specialist assessor in order to complete the application form. These assessments can take up to 18 months to process.

The deadline for application to the exam board is the February of the year that the learner sits exams.

There are no formal entry requirements for this subject.

However, if you’re looking to study this subject as one of four A Levels, we strongly advise you only do so if you are predicted at least a grade 7 at GCSE / IGCSE in this subject or a relevant subject.
