This course follows the English national KS3 curriculum for art & design, adapted for online teaching. Many practical techniques are implemented and this includes painting, drawing, modelling, digital art and photography. Teachers make use of the webcam feature each week to guide students through the various techniques. The completed pieces of art that are produced by the students are shared for viewing and feedback. This may be during the session or week to week as part of an assignment or an independent study activity.
Please find more information in the Art Department Materials List.
This course is delivered as a series of projects, one per term. Each project follows a broadly similar structure, with an introduction to the topic, planning, research, thinking and reflection stages. Teachers guide students by modelling practical techniques in art and design, so that students can complete a final piece of work by building up a portfolio of artwork etc. Students receive feedback on their final project based on the development of skills in the following areas:

Students create work in their paper sketchbooks, as well as digitally or as 3D models, which are then compiled and digitised for online assessment. Students use a PowerPoint template provided by the teacher to submit photos of their work every two weeks for feedback on their entire project.
Progress is measured by both formative check points and summative assessments. Formative assessments take place regularly and in a variety of formats ranging from group discussions, class collaborations, research, analysis, quizzes, communication skills, presentations and making activities. Students complete one summative assessment each term in which they are required to share their entire project and portfolio for review including their final outcomes, products, and solutions.
