    About this course

    Geography

    Our course:

    Years 7, 8 and 9 students follow a course incorporating the subject matter of the English National Curriculum at KS3. The course involves work at local, regional, national, international and global scales and provides coverage of different parts of the world and different types of environments. Emphasis is placed on the interaction between humans and the physical environment

    Students extend their knowledge and deepen their awareness of the world’s countries using maps of the world focusing on environmental regions, including polar and hot deserts, key physical and human characteristics, countries and major cities. Students will understand the key processes in physical geography relating to timescale and plate tectonics, rocks and soils, weathering and the weather and climate, hydrology and coasts. Students will understand how human and physical processes interact to influence and change environments and climate and how human activity relies on the effective functioning of natural systems.

    Student progress is measured by both formative and summative assessments. Formative assessment takes place regularly and in a variety of formats ranging from group discussion and collaboration, written tasks, quizzes, and presentations. Students complete one summative assessment each half-term in which they are required to demonstrate their understanding of a topic studied.
